2. Check Adjacent Dates
The specific dates you want might be fully booked while neighbouring dates have availability.
Try searching:

Weekday arrivals are dramatically less competitive. If you can arrive Thursday, you'll find availability at parks that look impossible for weekend arrivals.
3. Look at the Same Park on Different Dates
If Garibaldi is your target and July is fully booked, check August. If August weekends are gone, check weekdays. If the entire summer looks full, September often has surprising availability — and it's often the best month to go anyway.
September at Garibaldi, Manning, or Joffre Lakes means:
- No bugs
- Stable weather
- Fall colours
- Far fewer people
- Much better campsite availability
4. Try a Nearby Park You Haven't Considered
When one park is sold out, its neighbours might not be. Parks near popular destinations that often have better availability:
If Garibaldi is full:
- Golden Ears Provincial Park (Maple Ridge)
- Porteau Cove (Howe Sound)
- Cultus Lake (near Chilliwack)
If Joffre Lakes is full:
- Duffey Lake Road area (nearby, less visited)
- Nairn Falls (Pemberton area)
If Manning Park is full:
- E.C. Manning has multiple campgrounds — check all of them, not just Lightning Lake
- Cathedral Provincial Park (south of Keremeos) — dramatic and less known
If Banff is full (Parks Canada):
- Kananaskis Country (Alberta Parks system — separate booking)
- Yoho National Park (often slightly better availability than Banff)
5. Look for First Come First Served Options
Some BC Parks campgrounds don't require reservations. You simply show up and claim an open site.
The strategy: arrive mid-week (Thursday morning is ideal for a weekend trip), which gives you access to sites vacated by shorter-stay campers.
Check the BC Parks website for your region to identify which campgrounds are first come first served — many smaller, lesser-known parks use this system.
6. Consider Private Campgrounds
Private campgrounds and RV parks aren't on the Discover Camping system. They manage their own bookings and often have availability when provincial parks are full.
The experience is different — more amenities, less wilderness — but private campgrounds near popular areas are a genuine option when you're stuck.

BC is enormous. If the Sea-to-Sky corridor is packed, the Interior might be wide open. If Vancouver Island's east coast is booked, the west coast (Tofino area) might have different availability. If the Rockies are full, the Kootenays or the Cariboo might have exactly what you're looking for.
Some of BC's most beautiful camping is at parks that most people have never heard of. Wells Gray, Monashee, Tweedsmuir — these parks don't have the brand recognition of Garibaldi or Banff, which means their campsites are actually available.
The Most Important Thing: Start Monitoring Now
If there's a specific park and set of dates you want, the worst thing you can do is give up because it looks fully booked.
